Citizenship, Literacy, and Media (Fall ‘07)
In Fall 2007, Citizenship, Literacy, and Media (CLM) celebrated the overlaps among citizenship, literacy, and different forms of new media. With a spotlight on education, the series invited UTK students, teachers, and community members to discuss global issues with award-winning international experts in documentary filmmaking, international education, and social entrepreneurship.
CLM Public Events included screenings of WIDE ANGLE documentaries Time for School and Back to School with producer Tamara Rosenberg; a video conference with international educators; and campus talks about international education and social entrepreneurship with international educators Vicky Colbert (Escuela Nueva Foundation) and Erin Krampetz (Ashoka Campus Changemakers).
CLM was co-sponsored by the Cinema Studies Program, the Ready for the World Initiative, and the English Department’s Rhetoric, Writing, and Linguistics Division. It was generously supported by the American Studies, College Scholars, Comparative Literature, Latin American Studies, and Linguistics Programs; the Departments of History, Instructional Technology, Health, & Cultural Studies, Modern Foreign Languages & Literatures, and Political Science; the School of Art and the School of Journalism and Electronic Media; the Innovative Technology Center; The Studio; and
First-Year Composition.
